Flavor Profile Differences

Oak is doing most of the differentiating here.

  • Ancient Age: The bottom rung of the Buffalo Trace ladder and priced accordingly. Thin and simple at 80 proof, but it is recognisably the Mash Bill #2 recipe and it does its job in a highball without complaint.
  • Yellowstone Select: A revived historic brand from Limestone Branch. Light and creamy, with toasted oak, vanilla and peach and a short, peppery finish. Part of the proceeds support Yellowstone National Park.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • Go with Ancient Age if you want the cheapest honest mixer in the lineup and you are not drinking it neat.
  • Go with Yellowstone Select if you want a light, creamy everyday sipper with a historic name with more proof behind it.

Best enjoyed cocktails, highball (Ancient Age); rocks, highball, old-fashioned (Yellowstone Select).
