Stagg vs Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select
Stagg and Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select sit on opposite sides of a familiar divide: an undiluted barrel-strength pour versus an old-guard, classically built classic.

Flavor Profile Differences
Proof and heat dominate the difference.
- Stagg: Uncut and unfiltered Buffalo Trace at a proof that demands respect. Dark chocolate, espresso and charred oak arrive with genuine heat, and a few drops of water unlock a surprising amount of fruit.
- Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select: Barrels pulled from the top of the rickhouse, where the temperature swings are hardest, and it shows as considerably more oak than any standard Jack. A genuinely different proposition from the black label.
Which One Should You Choose?
- Go with Stagg if you want the biggest, hottest, most concentrated expression of the Buffalo Trace profile with significantly more proof behind it.
- Go with Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select if you want a distinctly oakier, more concentrated Tennessee whiskey with barrel-to-barrel character at a significantly lower price point.
Best enjoyed neat (Stagg); neat, rocks (Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select).
